The Next Big Thing

As an entrepreneur, I’ve always dreamed of creating the “Next Big Thing” that would rock the world and make me a gazillionaire. I have friends and colleagues who dream of the same thing and we all explore every opportunity to see if this is “the one” that will change everything.

What heaven to be as rich, famous and influential as Bill Gates, yes? To know I’ve touched billions of lives, and be so wealthy I now focus on how to give money away. Wow, that would be amazing.

I realized during this morning’s meditation that I already have the Next Big Thing–and so do you. I didn’t invent it and it’s free to everyone, although it is big business and worth gazillions of dollars.

Literally everyone in the world is influenced and touched by it, and everyone wants it, even if they don’t consciously know or admit this.

The Next Big Thing is Love.

We’ve recognized the feeling of love since we became conscious of our emotions, yet it’s only recently gone “mainstream” as something we can give to ourselves; something within all of us, that we can use to create the lives of our dreams, shield us from hurt and disappointment, or heal ourselves and others.

“Follow your bliss,” said well-known mythologist and author, Joseph Campbell. “Do What You Love the Money Will Follow,” recommends author, Martha Sinetar, in her popular book of the same name.  Kamal Ravikant’s eloquent little book “Love Yourself Like Your Life Depends on It,” makes it clear how important this emotion is to our well-being.

There are literally millions of books and poems and music and images and movies of love in every language. Thousands of blogs and web sites focus on love (including this one!): self-love, romantic love, spiritual love, brotherly love, parental love, love of friends, siblings, animals, food, music, nature. You name it, someone is promoting every type of love in one way or another.

It’s a big deal and a big industry.

But you don’t have to read a blog or a book, go to a movie or gallery, or find a romantic partner to experience it, although all of these can trigger the feeling of love.

Just sit quietly, listen to your favorite music, meditate, stroke your pet, hold a child’s hand, watch the ocean, hike somewhere beautiful, eat something delicious (I highly recommend chocolate!) to access love.

When we’re doing something that feels good, we’re experiencing love.

“Mmmm, that tastes so good; Aawww I love holding this little child’s hand; Oooh I love the softness of my pet’s fur; Wow that sunset is gorgeous…”

Each of these feelings is more than tactile, yes? It’s not just the taste on our tongue, or the feeling on our finger tips, or the sight of the sky and sun. It’s the way those physical sensations make us feel inside, in our hearts, our stomachs, our minds. All of our senses can connect us to the love within us.

Once you recognize the little feelings of love you experience every day, you’re on your way to seeing how love is in you and around all the time and you’ll start feeling more of it in your life.  In time you’ll see how it’s in everyone you know (regardless of how they behave sometimes–more on this later), which opens to the door to sharing it with each other, which creates more love.

See how that works? It’s truly the Next Big Thing…here now.
